he was Bud
with an open can;
he tapped his toe,
pointed a finger
to where he wanted to go:
over on the stage,
a lady inside her cage.
when he opened the door,
she swept the floor
with her piano;
at the beginning of the show,
all ripe blues and jazz,
he showed her what he has
inside his hard case,
a beautiful string bass.
and they began to play,
everything they ever wanted to say.
and out on the dance floor
everyone asked for more.
the sounds filled every head
with what the music Gods said.
all night long
like a beating heart each song
kept pounding away
and no one was asked to pay.
and out on the dance floor
everyone asked for more.
the sounds filled every head
with what the music Gods said.
all night long
like a beating heart each song
kept pounding away
and no one was asked to pay.
