nightingales can't be fed
on fairy tales
or sweet French bread
they need the windy sea
and unbridled shouts of reality
untamed happiness and Italian wine
thick tobacco smoke, English rhyme
dark German beer, ribald song
these little birdies can't go wrong
with splendid Russian blood and art
naturalness and pounding heart
nightingales can't be fed
on fairy tales
